A water jar with a concave base rising to a high rounded shoulder, drawn in to a short everted rim finished with a black lip. The upper body is slipped white and painted in black and orange over the full circumference, with the underbody left in red brown slip and the interior slipped orange. The layout divides the surface into large diamond and triangular panels, each filled with close parallel hatching, stepped blocks, and solid black or orange fields.
The hatching is drawn at the narrow spacing associated with Acoma potters, applied freehand with a yucca brush over a hard polished slip. Jars of this size were made for carrying and storing water balanced on the head, which accounts for the concave base and the thin light walls. The design carries around the full circumference without a break, the panels widening across the shoulder and drawing in toward the neck.
