A pendant from Alex Sanchez's Petroglyph series, its freeform silver panel textured and oxidized to read as rock face, with applied silver figures scattered across the surface. The glyphs include spirals, a bear with a heartline, a turtle, a handprint, standing figures, and crosses, alongside a beaded silver arc. A large freeform turquoise cabochon with dark matrix crowns the top in a plain bezel, and the piece is signed by the maker.
Alex Sanchez is a Navajo (Diné) silversmith who grew up in an artistic family and is a half brother of the jeweler Myron Panteah. He is known for his stamp work and for the Petroglyph series to which this pendant belongs, which sets applied silver rock art motifs against a textured ground.
