This small stone fetish in the form of a ram dates to the Ancestral Pueblo period, circa 1200 AD. Stone fetishes of this type were carved with considerable attention to animal form and were used in ceremonial and hunting contexts across the prehistoric Southwest. The piece has developed a warm patina consistent with age and use. Not found on federal or state land.
