Navajo
Circa 1918 or earlier
Sterling silver and turquoise
Size 6
10.05 grams
Provenance: Oscar Roberts, Sedona, AZ (purchased 1918)
A rectangular cabochon of green turquoise is set at the center of the ring in a silver bezel, held by split wire brackets and flanked by a triangular green turquoise stone at each shoulder. The heavy silver band is hand wrought and tapers from the setting toward the back, in the manner of early Navajo work. Documented as purchased in 1918, the ring dates to at or before that year; the central stone is cracked through, and the silver shows heavy wear and tarnish consistent with its age. In a US size 6 at 10.05 grams, it is a solid ring of early hand-made construction.
