Navajo
1920s
Sterling silver and turquoise
Ring size 9 1/2
Provenance: Private collection, Moriarty, NM
A square cabochon of bright blue turquoise is set flush in a plain silver bezel at the center of the ring, the stone even in colour and free of visible matrix across its face. The narrow band rises to the setting through stamped and filed shoulders worked with fine diagonal lines, the whole made without applied beadwork or ornament. The band is worn thin toward the back and the stamping is softened from use, with a soft aged patina throughout. In a US size 9 1/2 it is a slim, restrained ring made for wear.
