American Western
American West
Circa 1900 to 1920
Leather with metal studs and conchos
Provenance: Private collection, Montana
This pair of batwing chaps is cut from dark brown leather, each leg flaring wide at the base with a belt yoke and buckle at the top. Rows of small silver studs outline the curved pocket flaps at each hip, run along the outer edges of both legs, and form a five pointed star within a circle at the lower outer corner of each leg. Three round conchos with leather ties run down the outer edge of each leg to carry the fastening straps.
The leather is worn and scuffed with cracking in places, consistent with working use and age. The studwork remains largely intact across both legs, holding the star and border patterns. The chaps are offered as a pair in their present condition as shown.
