William Levi "Buck" Taylor was born in Texas in 1857 and became one of the most celebrated figures in Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show, where his skill as a bronc buster earned him the title "King of the Cowboys." Taylor was cast as General Custer in reenactments of the Battle of Little Bighorn and was the subject of several dime novels, making him one of the first figures to be mythologized as a cowboy hero in American popular culture.
