This albumen print by John K. Hillers shows Dance Rock at Walpi, the historic Hopi village set along First Mesa in Arizona. Hillers worked with government survey and ethnographic projects in the American West, producing photographs of Native communities, archaeological sites, and Southwestern landscapes. The subject connects the built environment of Walpi with a natural rock formation associated with ceremonial space.
