Provenance: Private collection, Gallup, New Mexico

A spinner sunface pendant by Don Dewa, the central sunface set on a pivot so it rotates within an open silver ring, inlaid on both faces for two designs in one piece. The sunface and surrounding band are worked in channel inlay of turquoise, coral, jet, and mother of pearl, framed by a scalloped silver border with a matching inlaid bail. The stones are cut and set stone to stone in fine silver channels, sitting flush and evenly polished.

Don Dewa is a Zuni artist who has made inlay jewelry since the 1970s and is credited with originating the rotating spinner design. His work pairs precise channel inlay with a reversible, two sided sunface. He signs his work, often with Zuni, NM.
