This is Duke Kahanamoku's card from the 1933 Sport Kings Gum series issued by the Goudey Gum Company, the set that placed the Hawaiian swimmer and surfer among the leading athletes of his era. The portrait shows Kahanamoku in a grey tank suit against a yellow ground beneath the red Sport Kings Gum banner, with the Goudey device dated 1933 in the lower corner. Sport Kings was the first major multi sport trading card set, and Kahanamoku's inclusion marked the wider recognition of swimming and surfing alongside baseball, boxing, and football.
Duke Kahanamoku won Olympic swimming medals across three decades and did more than any other figure to carry Hawaiian surfing to the mainland and the world.
