This Dutch apron clasp in coin silver is constructed in the filigree openwork manner characteristic of traditional Dutch regional jewelry made for folk costume, with two hinged circular panels joined at the center and decorated with scrolling wirework, granulated ball terminals, and a central domed boss on each side. Apron clasps of this type were worn as functional dress accessories in Dutch provincial communities, particularly in Zeeland, South Holland, and Friesland, where elaborate silver costume jewelry remained in active use through the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The piece is in good condition with the hinge mechanism intact.
