Daniel Thomas Egerton was a British artist who traveled extensively in Mexico between 1830 and 1840, producing a body of landscape and topographical work that remains among the most significant visual records of Mexico in that period. This 1966 special reprint edition was published in Mexico City and reproduces Egerton's views with accompanying text. Jean Charlot, from whose collection this copy comes, was a French-Mexican artist and art historian long associated with the Mexican muralist movement, who later settled in Honolulu and built one of the most important scholarly collections related to Mexican art.
