Oil on tin
Height 7 3/4 inches (19.7 cm), width 5 inches (12.7 cm)
Provenance: Gary Spratt, San Francisco, California
The Virgin sits on a bank of clouds with the Christ Child upright on her lap, her head crowned and inclined toward him, one hand steadying him at the waist. She wears a red robe under a dark blue mantle that falls across her shoulder and pools around her, and the whole figure is set inside a painted oval that frames the group against a pale green ground. The tin is pierced at the top edge for hanging, and the paint surface carries the scattered losses and abrasion of a sheet that was in domestic use.
