Etruscan
Circa 700 BC
Bronze
Diameter 7.25" (18.4 cm)
Provenance: Christian Rubb, Santa Barbara; Martha Pillard, Honolulu, HI
This shallow bronze votive dish dates to the early Etruscan period, circa 700 BC, when the production of bronze vessels for ritual and dedicatory use was well established in central Italy. The dish has developed a rich, layered green patina consistent with long burial or extended age, the surface textures giving evidence of the corrosion processes typical of ancient Mediterranean bronzes. It comes with a clear two-step provenance through American private collections in Santa Barbara and Honolulu.
