A Great Lakes bandolier bag worked in glass seed beads on a white ground, the strap and pouch carrying a meandering floral vine in the region's distinctive style. Green maple leaves, blue blossoms, and rose and gold flowers wind along the length, while a band of black velvet frames the central pouch. A multicolored beaded fringe finishes the lower edge.
The bag descends through a documented chain of nineteenth and twentieth century British collections. It was held by the Pre-Raphaelite painter Sir John Everett Millais, passed through the Speak Bequest, and entered the collection of the dealer William Ohly, associated with the Berkeley Galleries in London and the Abbey Museum in Hertfordshire, before passing down by descent.
