This rectangular buckle is worked in sterling silver overlay, with a sun face design cut through the top layer to reveal a darkened and textured recessed ground beneath. The central face is built from a paneled crown, two rectangular eyes, and a small toothed mouth, surrounded by a ring of pointed rays that radiate outward toward the edges. The upper silver layer stays bright and polished while the recessed background reads deep and matte, giving the design its contrast. The reverse is a plain silver sheet stamped with a maker hallmark at one corner. It retains its hook and bar hardware for a belt.
