Red chalk with white heightening on buff paper

This drawing is worked in red chalk with white heightening on buff paper and presents three standing draped figures spaced across the sheet. The figure at left is seen from behind in heavy folds of drapery, the figure at center stands nearly frontal with one arm extended outward, and the figure at right turns inward with drapery gathered across the body. White heightening picks out the raised folds of fabric on each figure while the buff paper carries the middle tone.
A faint inscription runs along the lower edge of the sheet, and the paper shows natural toning consistent with age. The drawing is set within a wide brown mat and an ornately carved dark frame. The sheet is in good condition with the toning noted.
