Circa 240 BCE to 450 CE
Ceramic
Height 11 1/4 inches
Provenance: Jean Davenne, London, acquired in the London art market in the 1960s
The figure stands with both arms raised out to the sides, hands open with fingers spread. A large headdress frames the face with two curved, fan shaped lobes rising above the head, painted in ochre pigment. The face is smoothly modeled with almond eyes, a small nose, and a closed, faintly smiling mouth.
A wide collar retains traces of pale blue green pigment, extending down the chest in a V shape, with matching pigment visible on the wristbands. The chest displays modeled breasts, and the lower body is covered by a wide skirt with ochre painted bands at the waist and near the ankles. The figure stands on two feet with individually modeled toes.
