Sterling silver and turquoise
Ring size 9
Provenance: Private collection, Santa Barbara, CA
A large oval cabochon of pale apple green turquoise, faintly veined with tan, is set in a plain silver bezel finished with a heavy raised rim that steps up around the whole stone. The front of the ring carries no beadwork, rope or applied ornament, the weight of the piece resting entirely in that rim, while the shank is stamped along its shoulders. A fine fracture line crosses the middle of the stone with a shallow chip at the upper right edge, and the silver holds a soft aged patina. In a US size 9 it is a wide, plainly set ring made for wear.
