Photograph, signed, with custom mat
Photo: 7½ x 9½ in (19.1 x 24.1 cm), not including custom mat
Provenance: Ken Bradshaw, Hawaii
Ken Bradshaw is one of the most celebrated big wave surfers in Hawaiian history, associated above all with the outer reef break at Log Cabins on the North Shore of Oahu and with the January 28, 1998 swell that produced what was at the time documented as the largest wave ever ridden, an achievement that appeared on the cover of Surfer magazine and entered the permanent record of the sport. The caption visible on this print, "The Biggest Day Ever Ridden," refers directly to that session, making this a signed primary document from one of the defining moments in twentieth century surfing history. Bradshaw's North Shore career spanned four decades and his name is synonymous with the outer reefs that define Hawaiian big wave surfing at its most committed.
This photograph captures Bradshaw riding a wave of exceptional scale, the lone figure on the board set against the mass of moving water in the image that defined the event. The print is signed by Bradshaw himself and presented with a custom mat, acquired directly from the surfer in Hawaii.
