A whale toggle carved from walrus ivory by the Inuit of King Island, Alaska, in the nineteenth century. The body is smoothly rounded to the form of a whale, with a finely engraved eye and mouth and a pierced channel for the cord, and it most likely served as a fastener from a hunting helmet or garment. The ivory has aged to a soft cream color.
