This barrel shaped wood cup with a flat strap handle is carved across its entire exterior surface with rows of interlocking geometric figures set within a grid of raised ridges. The primary register consists of a repeating pattern of stepped lozenges filled with fine crosshatched incisions, bordered above and below by bands of zigzag and notched line ornament. The surface carries a deep, even brown patina built up through sustained use and handling.
