Navajo
1950s
Sterling silver and turquoise
Size 10
34.54 grams
Provenance: Private collection, Austin, TX
A large oval cabochon of blue turquoise, even in color with only a small dark inclusion breaking the surface, is set high in a sawtooth silver bezel that grips the stone in cut points around its edge. The bezel sits on a heavy plain band that tapers from the setting toward the back, with no stamping or applied work to draw from the stone. Green oxidation has formed in the silver where the bezel meets the turquoise, and the band carries a soft aged patina. At 34.54 grams in a US size 10, it is a heavy, plain ring made for wear.
