This white metal pendant is cast as two crossed surfboards with a surfer figure in the foreground, the word Makaha lettered on the reverse. Makaha, on the leeward coast of Oahu, was rediscovered by modern surfers in the 1950s and hosted the first of many international surfing contests in 1952, a spot known for towering waves that can reach twenty five feet. Pendants like this were worn by surfers connected to the break during the decade that established Makaha as a center of the sport.
