The toki is the Māori adze blade, used as a woodworking tool for carving waka (canoes), architectural timbers, and other wooden objects. This example is worked from greywacke, known in Māori as onewa, a dense fine-grained stone sourced primarily from the North Island of New Zealand and the preferred material for adze blades in the Māori tradition. The blade is trapezoidal in form, wide at the cutting edge and narrowing toward the poll, mounted on a custom display stand.
