A katsina pendant by Marco Begaye, built in gold filled brass over a blackened ground with sterling silver detail. The mask sits within a stepped, terraced headdress, above a tapered body worked with geometric brass overlay, stamped and repoussé accents, and applied silver rosettes at the shoulders. A single coral cabochon is set at the lower body, and the pendant hangs from a wide brass tube bail; it is signed by the maker.
Marco Begaye is a Navajo (Diné) silversmith from Ganado, Arizona, who learned in a family of silversmiths as the son of Jimmy Begaye and brother of Vernon Begaye. He works in a style that combines traditional Navajo silverwork with contemporary design. His work is documented in Navajo Jewelry by Jerry and Lois Jacka.
