This hand-colored engraving depicts Resolution Bay in the Marquesas Islands, after the Cook second voyage image based on William Hodges’s drawing. The subject relates to the printed visual record of Pacific voyaging, with figures shown aboard a large canoe and the Marquesan coastline visible beyond. This 1812 version should be understood as a later voyage-related engraving rather than the original Cook voyage atlas plate.
The composition records the canoe, rigging, figures, and coastal setting through the conventions of early 19th-century voyage engraving.
