This souvenir passenger list was issued by Matson Lines for travelers crossing to Hawaii aboard its steamships during the 1920s. The cover shows a couple in period bathing costume on a surfboard, the man standing in a yellow striped tank suit and the woman crouched in red, rendered in the soft illustrative style Matson used to sell the romance of the Islands. Passenger lists of this kind combined a keepsake cover with the roster of travelers aboard, and survive as ephemera of the early steamship era of Hawaiian tourism.
