American Southwest

Sterling silver and natural turquoise
Height 2 1/2 inches, width 3 1/4 inches
Provenance: Private collection, Pagosa Springs, Colorado
This buckle has a rounded four lobed silhouette framed by a twisted rope border, its surface covered in fine engraved scrollwork that fans outward across a stippled ground. A functional center bar and single tongue sit at the middle, with a cluster of natural turquoise set above and below the opening, each cluster built from a round center stone ringed by smaller teardrop stones. A single round turquoise is set into each side wing, and the stones range across soft blue and green tones. The silver holds a bright polished surface with light wear consistent with age, and the reverse is stamped sterling beside a maker hallmark and retains its center bar and tongue for a belt.
