$1,700.00

Navajo

Southwest

1990s

Sterling silver and turquoise, signed

Total circumference 8 3/4 in (22.2 cm), gap 1 1/2 in (3.8 cm), width 1 3/4 in (4.4 cm); 135.72 grams

Provenance: Private collection, Santa Fe, NM

This Navajo cuff by Gabby Jurado is worked as a spider web across the full width of the band. Fine silver lines form the web against a deeply oxidized ground, with a raised silver spider poised at the center below a single turquoise stone. The turquoise is blue with brown matrix, set in a serrated bezel framed by twisted rope wire.

The web is built up in relief so it stands clear of the darkened background, giving the cuff real depth and dimension. At just under 136 grams across a 1 3/4 inch width, it is a heavy, substantial piece. It is signed by the maker and dates to the 1990s.

Gabriel Jurado, known as Gabby, is a Navajo silversmith recognized for his spider and spider web designs. His cuffs feature a deeply worked web across an oxidized ground with a raised silver spider at the center, set with turquoise, blending traditional Navajo silverwork with a distinctive contemporary motif.
