Navajo
Southwest
1930s
Sterling silver and turquoise
Total circumference 7 1/2 in (19.1 cm), gap 1 1/8 in (2.9 cm), width 7/8 in (2.2 cm)
Provenance: Private collection, Honolulu, HI
This Navajo cuff sets a row of green turquoise stones across the front, cut as ovals and teardrops in serrated bezels with silver drop beads between them. Appliqué feather motifs and twisted rope borders frame the stones along a stamped silver band. The turquoise is green with golden brown matrix, closely matched across the row.
The feather work and beadwork give the front a full, layered look rather than relying on the stones alone. The band tapers from the stone row down to plain silver shanks at the back. The design and setting are characteristic of Navajo silverwork of the 1930s.
