Navajo Green Turquoise Wide Stamped Silver Cuff

$1,350.00

Navajo

Southwest

1920s

Sterling silver and turquoise

Total circumference 7 1/2 in (19.1 cm), gap 1 1/8 in (2.9 cm), width 1 in (2.5 cm); 47.03 grams

Provenance: Private collection, Santa Fe, NM

This early Navajo cuff centers a single large oval turquoise stone, green with heavy brown and tan matrix, seated in a plain bezel on a wide silver band. The band is worked from a broad sheet of silver and deeply stamped with a repeating pattern of fan medallions, arrows and beaded lines that run the full length of the cuff. The stamping is bold and evenly spaced, consistent with Navajo work of the 1920s.

The single stone reads as the focal point against the dense stamped field that surrounds it on both sides. At just over 47 grams across a 1 inch width, the weight is carried in the broad silver band rather than in the setting. The 7 1/2 inch circumference with a 1 1/8 inch gap suits a medium wrist and adjusts through the open back.
