Navajo, Southwest
1920
Ingot silver, leather
Circumference 24 inches (61 cm)
39 grams
Provenance: Brimfield Flea Market, Massachusetts
The band is built from rectangular silver panels linked end to end and mounted on the original leather strap, which is worn soft and fastens with a simple tie. Each panel is stamped across its face with dense repeating motifs including leaf, arc, and dot punches, worked closely enough to fill the whole of the surface. The metal is ingot silver rather than sheet, hand hammered and left with an uneven thickness and a dark patina held in the stamped recesses.
