Navajo Katsina Dancer Silver Overlay Necklace

$1,200.00

Navajo

American Southwest

1990s

Sterling silver

Length including pendant 30 in / 76 cm
125.36 grams
Signed

Provenance: Private collection, Las Cruces, New Mexico

This necklace is worked in silver overlay, with six figural kachina dancers forming the links down both sides to a large kachina pendant at the front. Each figure is cut from a top sheet of silver and soldered over a darkened, textured ground, so the dancers stand out against the black recesses. The links connect through handmade silver chain to a hook clasp at the back.

The pendant is a single large katsina with a stepped tableta headdress, radiating feathers, and a masked face above a silver body. The same overlay technique carries through the pendant, its cutout details set against the oxidized ground. At 30 inches including the pendant and just over 125 grams, it is a substantial silver necklace built entirely on the cut and overlaid figures.

We ship free anywhere in the world, fully insured, packed by hand.
