The cuff is a wide flat band worked all over in fine parallel lines chased across the face, the ruling broken along one edge by a row of square notches cut through to leave a stepped border running the length of the band. Set across the center is a rectangular lapis cabochon, deep blue with flecks of gold pyrite, raised in a stepped bezel whose inner wall is itself ruled to match the band beneath it. The oxidized ground holds the darkness of the chasing so the silver reads as a woven or textile surface rather than a polished one.
Kathleen Livingston Chavez was born on 17 December 1958 in Church Rock, New Mexico, where she still lives with her husband, Lorenzo Juan.
