Navajo Lapis Bolo Tie by Everett and Mary Teller

$1,900.00

Navajo

Southwest

2015

Sterling silver and lapis lazuli

Slide height 3 inches (7.6 cm), width 2 inches (5.1 cm), chain length 52 inches (132 cm)

Provenance: Skip Hollbrook, Santa Fe, New Mexico

The slide is a slightly tapered rectangle worked in silver overlay, the upper sheet cut away in terraced and hooked forms that step inward from all four sides toward the centre, with the recessed ground beneath darkened so the pattern reads as line drawing. At its middle sits an elongated oval of lapis in a plain bezel, deep blue and unbroken by matrix, set upright so the design opens around it. The cord is a woven sterling chain rather than the usual leather, finished with tapered silver tips and a hook fastening, which gives the piece a weight and drape that leather would not.
