This Navajo necklace sets large freeform turquoise cabochons in plain silver bezels along the strand, with silver squash blossom drops spaced between the stones. The turquoise is blue green with heavy golden brown matrix, each stone cut to an irregular natural shape rather than a uniform oval. A crescent naja hangs at the center front, set with more of the same matrixed turquoise around a twisted wire loop.
The plain bezels and undecorated silver keep the focus on the stones, letting the size and matrix of the turquoise carry the piece. The naja descends from Moorish metalwork and entered Navajo silver as both ornament and protective motif, here set with turquoise to match the blossoms. At 22 inches the necklace is a wearable length, its weight and color concentrated in the large turquoise across the front.
