Navajo
Circa 1934 or earlier
Sterling silver and turquoise
Ring size 5
Provenance: Ron Grenko, Albuquerque, NM
A large elongated oval cabochon of green turquoise, veined throughout with tan and gold matrix, is set upright in a plain silver bezel edged with fine milled wire. Applied silver drops run down one side of the setting and along the split shank, which is worked in narrow bands with stamped rivets at the shoulders. Documented as purchased in 1934, the ring dates to at or before that year; fracture lines cross the upper half of the stone with some pitting where the matrix breaks the surface. In a US size 5 it is a tall, elongated ring made for wear.
