1920s
Sterling silver and turquoise
Total circumference 7 1/2 in (19.1 cm), gap 1 1/4 in (3.2 cm), width 1/4 in (0.6 cm); 30.96 grams
Provenance: Private collection, Santa Fe, NM
This Navajo cuff sets a row of oval blue turquoise stones along the front, graduated with the largest stone at the center. The stones are strung along a twisted rope wire and separated by small stamped silver rosette buttons, with a stamped fan and sawtooth border running above the row. The turquoise is a clear blue with fine dark matrix, closely matched across all the stones.
The narrow band keeps the focus on the line of stones, which wraps well around the wrist rather than sitting only at the top. At just under 31 grams over a 1/4 inch width, the cuff is light and low profile despite the number of settings. The 7 1/2 inch circumference with a 1 1/4 inch gap suits a medium wrist and adjusts through the open back.
