Navajo Sand Cast Buckle with Arrow and Turquoise

$650.00

Navajo, Southwest

1930s

Sterling silver, turquoise

Height 2 1/2 inches (6.4 cm), Width 3 1/8 inches (7.9 cm)

80.49 grams

Provenance: Private collection, Belen, New Mexico

The buckle is sand cast within a rectangular outer frame, the interior worked as an open design in which a horizontal arrow crosses the center and meets curving bars that sweep out to the corners above and below. A single triangular turquoise stone with dark spiderweb matrix is set at the middle in a plain bezel, held within a raised square cast surround. The silver is thick and rounded with the soft contours left by the sand mold, and a dark patina fills the recesses against the brighter raised surfaces.
