Navajo Sand Cast Scroll Buckle Oval Turquoise

$650.00

Navajo

American Southwest

1960s

Sterling silver and turquoise

Height 2 inches, width 3 inches, 56.11 grams

Provenance: Private collection, Austin, Texas

This sand cast buckle is worked in sterling silver with a symmetrical openwork design, its four corners formed of rounded scrolls that curl inward toward the center. A pointed silver element rises at the top and bottom of the frame, enclosing a raised rectangular panel at the middle. Set into that panel is an oval turquoise with a blue green surface and dark matrix veining running across the stone. The cast silver carries the soft rounded contours and shallow surface texture left by the sand casting method, with darker patina settled into the recesses. The reverse retains its original hook and bar hardware for a belt.
