Sterling silver
Width 2 5/8 in (6.7 cm)

A sand cast hair ornament worked as an openwork oval in sterling silver, pierced with four round openings within a continuous cast frame. The heavy poured form keeps the soft, slightly pitted surface characteristic of sand casting, with a raised ridge running where the halves of the design meet. It is all silver with no stones, carrying a darkened patina in the recesses consistent with age.
