Navajo Silver Pendant with Freeform Green Turquoise

$450.00

Navajo

Southwest

1980s

Sterling silver and turquoise

Height 3 3/4 inches (9.5 cm)

64.94 grams

Hallmarked D within an arrowhead

Provenance: Private collection, Santa Fe, New Mexico

A large freeform turquoise is set at the foot of the pendant in a plain bezel that follows every irregularity of the stone, the color running from a soft blue green through to a warmer yellow green with a fine dark web breaking across the surface. Above it a heavy crescent of silver sweeps up from one side of the bezel, cast solid and left with the pitted texture of the mold across its inner face while the outer curve is polished smooth. The bail is a separate tapering plate stamped on both faces with paired crescents and scrolled forms, soldered to the crescent so the whole hangs from a single point.
