Navajo Stamped Buckle Four Corner Turquoise

$675.00

Navajo

American Southwest

Circa 1930

Sterling silver and turquoise

Height 2 1/4 inches, width 2 3/4 inches

Provenance: Private collection, Albuquerque, New Mexico

This scalloped edge buckle is worked in sterling silver with a functional center bar and single tongue at the middle. An oval turquoise sits at each of the four corners, framed by applied leaf shaped elements, with the stones ranging across blue and blue green tones with dark veining. Between the corners the silver is covered in stamp work, including rows of diamonds, small stippled squares, and stepped motifs, all enclosed by a beaded and scalloped border. The silver has darkened to a soft gray patina that settles into the stamped lines and sets off the polished stones. The reverse shows the four pushed through stone bezels and retains its center bar and tongue for a belt.
