This Navajo necklace sets large teardrop turquoise cabochons in scalloped silver bezels, each blossom framed by a petaled edge of silver around a recessed ground. A strand of round silver beads carries the row of turquoise stations down to a crescent naja that repeats the same scalloped setting. The turquoise is a deep blue with visible matrix, cut as substantial teardrop and oval cabochons rather than small clustered stones.
The scalloped bezels and darkened grounds give each stone a framed, sculptural setting characteristic of mid twentieth century Navajo work. The naja descends from Moorish metalwork and entered Navajo silver as both ornament and protective motif, here set with turquoise to match the blossoms. At 26 1/2 inches the necklace is a full length, its presence carried in the large turquoise stones across the front.
