This Navajo necklace alternates natural turquoise and coral in a row of teardrop stations, each cabochon set in a silver bezel over a recessed darkened ground. The turquoise reads blue with matrix and the coral a deep red orange, set side by side along a strand of round silver beads. A crescent naja hangs at the center front, set with a turquoise cabochon above a small cast form within the crescent.
The pairing of turquoise and coral is less common than turquoise alone, the coral reaching the Southwest through trade and taken up by Navajo silversmiths alongside local stone. The naja descends from Moorish metalwork and entered Navajo silver as both ornament and protective motif, here set with turquoise to anchor the front. At 28 inches the necklace is a full length, its two stone palette carried evenly across the blossoms.
