Navajo
Southwest
1930
Sterling silver and turquoise
Total circumference 8 1/2 in (21.6 cm), gap 1 1/2 in (3.8 cm), width 1 in (2.5 cm)
Provenance: Private collection, Taos, NM
This early Navajo cuff sets a row of oval turquoise stones across the front, graduated in size toward a larger center stone. Each stone sits in a plain bezel, separated by pairs of round silver drop beads on a heavy silver band. The turquoise runs from green to blue with dark matrix, closely matched along the row.
The simple bezel settings and bead accents let the stones themselves carry the front, in the manner of early Navajo work. The band is heavy and solid, tapering to plain shanks at the back. It dates to around 1930.
