$1,100.00

Navajo

Southwest

1940s

Sterling silver and turquoise

Total circumference 8 1/2 in (21.6 cm), gap 1 in (2.5 cm), width 1 in (2.5 cm)

Provenance: Larry Frank, Taos, NM

This Navajo cuff sets a row of turquoise stones across the front, cut in mixed shapes with an oval at the center between teardrop and rounded rectangular stones. Each stone sits in a serrated bezel framed by twisted rope wire, with round silver drop beads set between the settings. The turquoise runs from blue to green, the large center stone showing natural brown matrix across its face.

The stones are mounted on a split band that separates below the row and runs to the terminals. At a 1 inch width the cuff has good presence while keeping a clean, balanced line across the wrist. The 8 1/2 inch circumference with a 1 inch gap suits a larger wrist and adjusts through the open back.

Larry Frank was a Taos collector and scholar, co-author of Indian Silver Jewelry of the Southwest 1868 to 1930 and New Kingdom of the Saints.
