$2,600.00

Navajo

Southwest

1920s

Sterling silver and natural turquoise

Total circumference 8 in (20.3 cm), gap 1 1/4 in (3.2 cm), width 1 in (2.5 cm); 67.47 grams

Provenance: Tesuque, NM trade

This early Navajo cuff sets a row of rectangular turquoise stones across the front, each in a plain bezel and separated by columns of round silver drop beads. The turquoise runs from green to blue with brown matrix, closely matched along the row, mounted on a heavy silver band. Stamped half moon and beadwork borders frame the stones above and below in the manner of early Navajo work.

The band is substantial at just over 67 grams, giving the cuff real weight and presence for its 1 inch width. The combination of the stone row with the stamped and beaded borders is characteristic of Navajo silverwork of the 1920s. The 8 inch circumference with a 1 1/4 inch gap suits a medium to larger wrist and adjusts through the open back.
