Navajo, Southwest
1950s
Sterling silver, turquoise
Height 2 inches (5.1 cm), Width 5 inches (12.7 cm)
64.71 grams
Provenance: Private collection, Gallup, New Mexico
The pin is built as a pair of raised silver domes, each ringed by a double band of round turquoise cabochons in graduated sizes and framed by rows of silver drops. Between the two rosettes sits a stamped and repoussé panel with an elongated turquoise cabochon at its center, worked with lobed petals and a rope border. At five inches wide and nearly sixty five grams, the pin is unusually large for the form and was made to be worn on a coat, blanket, or shawl rather than on light fabric.
